Functions of Different Storage System In Warehouses

Outdoor storage is where you store items outside, usually in an open area. The goods are stored in large open spaces or warehouses with ventilation and temperature controls. This can be done on a large scale or a small scale. Using this type of storage is not recommended if you’re trying to keep your inventory hidden from the public eye. Outdoor storage is used for the long-term storage of goods, usually in large quantities.

  • Block Storage

Block storage is defined as storing items together in a block-like shape with plenty of space between them so that there is no risk of damaging any other items that may be nearby during transport or handling operations.

This type of storage is where goods are stacked on top of each other and not arranged in any particular order or pattern. This can be indoors or outdoors depending on the type of goods being stored.

  • Racking

Racking is when you use metal shelving to organize your items, by size, shape, color and other factors. Racking is arranging your items vertically using racks so that they don’t take up too much space horizontally but still have enough room for each item to be stored safely without causing damage to other items around it due to their weight or size limitations, such as heavy objects falling over onto lighter ones.

  1. Standard Wide Aisle Racking

This type of storage option is designed to hold a large amount of product and is commonly used in warehouses that need to store large quantities of items. Standard wide aisle racking has become an industry-standard because it’s easy to assemble and relatively inexpensive.

  • Narrow And Very Narrow Aisle Racking

Narrow and very narrow aisle racking is similar in design to standard wide aisle racking, but it has less space between each individual rack unit. This type of storage option can accommodate more products than conventional racks because there aren’t as many gaps between each one, which means less time spent searching for products in the warehouse and more time being productive.

  • Drive-in Racking

Drive-in racking is used when you need to store items too big for conventional racks or shelves—for example, large parts for machinery or heavy equipment that require extra protection during transit.

Drive-in racks are also perfect for storing small parts due to their open design and ability to stack vertically so you can fit more products on one level than with traditional storage options like shelving or bins.

Drive-in racking is designed to hold large amounts of stock at bayonet pallet points at one end, which allows for easy access to the pallets without having to walk through them all the way down the aisle or into another section of storage space if there are multiple levels involved (ex: two floors above each other).

  • Push-back Racking

Push-back racking is a type of storage option used for warehousing, as it allows for goods to be stored space-efficiently. It is often used in stores and restaurants, where goods are placed on shelves and pushed back when needed. This type of storage is also very good for items that need to be accessed quickly, such as produce or prepared goods.

  • Pallet Flow Racking

Pallet flow racking can be used for warehousing, as it allows items to be stored in an organized way so that they can easily be retrieved according to their location within the warehouse. This type of storage is also very useful when many different types of products are being stored in the warehouse since it makes it possible to separate them into different areas based on their characteristics like weight or size.

  • Double-deep Racking

Double-deep racking is used for warehousing, as it allows items to be stored at different heights according to how frequently they will be accessed during normal operations (the upper racks) or during peak times (the lower ones).

  • Semi-automated Racking

Semi-automated racking is a type of running pallet racking that uses automation to move products from one location to another within a warehouse. This storage option is ideal for companies with high volumes of products and needs to constantly move items around to make space for new shipments.

C. Shelving

Shelving is a type of storage option that can be used for both manual and automated applications. Shelving can be set up to maximize space by using multiple levels or it can be designed with open areas for easy access during inventory counts and picking orders from customers.
